DP256 BDM - Toby Merridan - Oct 1 2:53:00 2002

Hi Folks,

I have an application using a DP256 where the program may need to be changed
in the field. Does the Chip automatically detect when the BDM Port is
connected to?

Is this the correct way to initiate Program updated to a finished product
using this chip?

Regards

Re: DP256 BDM - Gordon Doughman - Oct 1 8:59:00 2002

Toby,

The application firmware can be updated in the field through the BDM port using
a tool such as Motorola's Serial BDM Programmer (P/N: SCBDMPGMR12, $500). Info
on the programmer can be found at:

http://e-www.motorola.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=SCBDMPGMR12&parentCode=MC9S12DP256&releaseLevel=null&nodeId=02M0ylfWcbfM0zGQbJwn

An alternative can be to use a bootloader that receives the new firmware
through one of the chip's communications channels. See Application Note AN2153
for an example of a bootloader that uses the DP256's SCI to receive S-Records
and reprogram the on-chip Flash.

Regards,
Gordon
