CW 4.1 debugger locks up when communicating with Softec S12XDP512 Evaluation Bd - aerowesty2000 - Mar 22 15:03:00 2006

I am having trouble with a new SK-S12XDP512-A evaluation board and
Codewarrior 4.1 debugger locking up Windows. This occurs during
communication via the USB to BDM (On-board BDM). I am able to
communicate/program with the eval board but it is intermittent. Every
once in a while I can get through the whole programming sequence only
to lock up during the debug phase while executing single step, run,
stop, reset or other debugger commands. The only way to un-lock the
debugger is to remove the USB cable. This gives a Hiwave
communications error which allows me to cancel out of the debug
session, close the debugger and go back to CW4.1 to try again. I
am running Windows XP Service pack 2 on my laptop which is a 1.7 GHz
Pentium M with 512 MB of RAM. I checked out the S12X forums on
Softec's website, but did not find anything addressing this problem.
Has anyone run into this problem? Is there any USB communication
setting that needs to be tweaked? The project is the XGATE project
example supplied by Softec which works well once it is loaded.

Thank You for your time and patience.

George...

Hi George,

While validating the latest CodeWarrior for HC12 (V4.5) we detected a
caching problem that can appear in peculiar cases due to display reasons.
The problem leads to huge amount of data readback from the hardware,
blocking the debugger for several seconds.
I cannot guaranty that I can help to solve your exact issue, but I have
posted the prototype of the Data window in the group (link here below). The
.ZIP contains .ZIP's with the proto for CW12V3.1 and CW12V4.1.

Please install the matching "data.wnd" DLL in the "prog" folder of
your
CodeWarrior installation. Also backup the previous one. As with any
prototype, the risk of debugger problems cannot be excluded. It is
delivered "as is". However, the fix got validated without source changes
for CW12V45.

Gilles

Re: CW 4.1 debugger locks up when communicating with Softec S12XDP512 Evaluation Bd - aerowesty2000 - Mar 27 7:07:22 2006

Giles,

I dont think that the problem is with Codewarrior. I have been in
contact with Softec's technical support and they are stumped as well.
I did some additional investigation using Softec's Datablaze
programmer and the same lockup occurs. I uninstalled then re-installed
the most current Softec software from their website with the same
results. If the programmer locks up, a quick disconnect of the USB
cable gives back control (with associated USB error). Thank you for
your quick response. If anyone else has experienced this problem I
would love to find out how they solved it.

George
