still searching for open source programmer/debugger hardware design... - Jay Dagenais - Aug 30 15:36:09 2006

Over the past coupld of years that I have been checking out the list each day I have asked about any freely available/open source hardware programmer/debugger designs, and here it is again. There has been a couple of hits but nothing yetthat has jumped out at me. I would love to build something similar to the P&E parallel port debugger, nice and easy. I have taken apart a couple, one for PPC and one for HC16 and the design is identical, so wonder if that is the case for the HC12 as well, and the differences are just in the firmware IC they use each (which also have identical markings I think..?) If this is the case well I will just go and bu one of the HC12 firmware IC's from P&E and swap out the one in the HC16 debugger already! Anyone been here already?

This has been the largest thing holding me back from developing with the HC12, HC08 both of which I have many sample parts in lots of packages. I also have a old M68EVB912B32 dev board which supposidly can be programmed using the serial live inly, but I still haven't figured out how to do this yet and have tried on a few occasions, eventually putting in away in favour for easier hardware, like my AVR's and SX. What are the restrictions if any that occur when usinf the RS232 for loading code rather than a proper programmer or debugger?

Thansk in advance for help with these! jaydag71

Did you ever look at TBDML?

http://forums.freescale.com/freescale/board/message?board.id=16BITCOMM&message.id=1512

It's a USB BDM solution. If you want a simpler device you can just use
any EVB that uses the 9s12DP256 in the pod mode to control another dev
board via it's BDM port.

If you care about this platform you should upgrade the the newer 9s12
devices. Many people love the newest 9s12X devices but I haven't
started using them yet.

I made some open source IDEs you may be interested in:
