Transform a DEMO9S12NE64 into a powerful Ethernet based BDM programmer - Mark Butcher - Nov 5 16:12:06 2006

Hi All

It is a goal that I set myself sometime ago and finally I can=20
proudly present a first version of a BDM for the M9S12NE64.

In fact it's not a BDM as such because it is a guide and a software=20
package which allows anyone with a DEMO9S12NE64 (or other demo/eval=20
board) to simply convert it into a powerful Ethernet based BDM=20
programming tool. The main interest being to allow a simple transfer=20
from the stage as developer with the DEMO9S12NE64 =96 where=20
programming and debugging is performed often using the pre-installed=20
Freescale=99 Serial Monitor =96 to your own boards requiring a BDM to=20
program application software or the Serial Monitor.

I built myself a BDM a long time ago so that I could program fresh=20
devices as an experiment and I have now finally found some time to=20
get it into a form which will be useful for anyone wanting or=20
needing such a tool. It is reliable and easy to use. It uses and=20
demonstrates some features of the uTasker operating system and=20
TCP/IP stack since it is based on it

It is now available as a guide with software kit. Simply build a 3-
wire cable to attach the DEMO9S12NE64 to a target, load the software=20
and start programming over the network. I hope that you find it of=20
great use =96 it is offered free and can be downloaded from the=20
uTasker web site. Find it under "Projects and Application Notes"=20
here: http://www.utasker.com/docs/documentation.html=20

If you try it please tell me how you get on and what you think of=20
this first version.

Regards

Mark Butcher

Very cool!

I'd love to see if this BDM can be modified to support a Coldfire
target! The cheapest Coldfire BDM costs around $250, and that's for
the most basic model. Netburner sells nice dev boards, but the cost of
the BDM has kept me away.

If the Coldfire could have it's own serial monitor, that would also
open up a lot of options!

Eric

FYI the M52235 EVB is USD $299 and comes with the USB PE coldfire BDM
and also a power-pack and the eval coldfire codewarrior etc. You can
order direct online.

Dean.
