need a P&E GAL for CablePPC....want to trade? - timbomcnuckle - Jun 22 2:48:00 2007
Hi folks, I have a bunch of messed up equip that I am trying to
resolve without having to spend more $$-- I have a cable PPC and cable
hc16 (both the same thing except for the GAL chip), the GAL in the
cablePPC is fried or something, the other one has been recently
replaced except that I don't need it cause I don't dev with the hc16
anymore (and have a bunch of leftover related hardware, thus..) I
wonder if anyone would be interested in doing a trade for the hc16
stuff in exchange for a new GAL for the cablePPC (or other interesting
stuff?), (~30$ value for a new GAL) As well as the cablehc16, there
are a bunch of PCB's designed around the devices I would be willing to
throw in (there are a bunch, 2 types of boards, both manufactured by
Intec Automation [where I used to werk]) The boards are the F16MiteV2
and the Freedom16 v1.12, completely unpopulated, fresh from the
spinner(old stock tho) Also have a couple of old hc16's I'de throw in
to get ya started.
As well, I also have an old MC68HC912B32 eval board that I would like
to trade or sell for something interesting. I haven't used it in a
while but I know it werks, and can verify prior to shipping or whatever.
What would I like (some may be asking...I hope.)? I am in need of
very small dc motors (a matching set geared would be great!) for a
nano sumo I want to finish, micro sumo I want to start. I am also
seeking a pair of mechanical or optical encoders with output shaft,
preferably 2channel, small in size, res not too important. An ICD2 for
the PIC's would be a huge asset I'de be willing to negotiate for, or a
programmer for the TI MSP430's, including one of the EZ430's(want one
but can't even justify spending the 20$ right now!).
anyways, thanks for the time, please feel free to contact me @

At a previous gig I used the CABLE32 beasties. I got a couple of extra
GALs for them...but...after having two modules fail I replaced the
GALs and found that two full days of debugging was necessary to figure
out that the ribbon cables had gone bad.
I built a couple of ribbon cables and both of my modules worked great,
even with the original GALs installed.
The modules from Macraigor can blow traces, but those can be fixed
with a bit of wire wrap wire and solder.
Just follow the magic rule, turn off the target system power before
connecting or disconnecting BDM modules.

Strip apart a mouse.

Thanks for that! I'll have to go back and re-check them both out! I am
fairly sure that the issue is the GAL though,, as I have swapped out
both ribbon cables and GAL's on each and re-tested, as well as gone
over the hardware (visually only albeit) looking for obvious breaks,
burns, etc....
I actually salvage from many 'mice' often, however I have yet to find
a suitable 'mechanical encoder' in a mouse- I did find one in a small
USB optical mouse but it would but be suitable for a motor control app
! I am in the process of building 2 quadrature encoder setups for a
mini-sumo with tank treads- it is based on hall sensors as use of
optical sensors was not possible. Still, if I see a mouse in the
thrift store- I grab it up just for the phototransistors and other
tidbits that I will no doubt need one day.....thanks again! jd
