usb serial cable communication problems - rocketscientist83 - Feb 12 14:48:46 2008
Hello,
I have a 68HC12 freescale 9S12C32 microcontroller with embedded GNU
(and USB serial cable) to write, compile, and load programs on to my
microcontroller.
Recently, I purchased a laptop with windows vista. Even though a com
port has been sucessfully configured for embedded GNU, when I try to
download a program to my microprocessor, I get the following error:
Error: Invalid handle ($ffffffff) returned from CreateFile() for 'COM1'.
Please press the reset button on your board and try again.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hello,
have you install the USB-Serial driver (PLL 2303 for example)?

Yes the com port is really COM8 and not COM1. I believe the error=20
message default just states COM1.
In addition, I have succesfully downloaded and configured a driver=20
for this USB serial cable. Everything works...just when I try to=20
download a program on to my microprocessor, I get the following error:
Error: Invalid handle ($ffffffff) returned from CreateFile()=20
for 'COM1'.
Please press the reset button on your board and try again.
Thanks for your help.

Is your COM port really COM1?
If you use an USB-RS232 converter, it is probably port COM4 to 8.
Check in peripherical list (from control panel, I think even on Vista)
