DP256 - DP512 - Jonathan Masters - Apr 21 4:26:28 2009

Again...

I have moved my metrowerks license back to my old machine which is a
2.4GHZ Celeron. The new machine is a 2.66GHZ Core2 Quad Q9400.

Everything works on the old machine. So I copied the project to the new
machine lock stock and barrel. License back and so came back all the
problems. Irrevocable conclusion ... despite having used Metrowerks on
the Core2 machine for a month or so, it is unreliable with the P&E Pod.
I have eliminated all other elements and can only conclude this.

I would like to know if anyone else is using CW12 3.1 and a fast machine
like this. I suspect the combination of the two is unhealthy. More to
the point - does anyone have CW6.2, Core2 Quad and PE BDM working
without troubles?

Jonathan.

Hi,
I have a Vista machine (Core2 Duo) with :
a) CW for S12(X) version 5.0 (latest), with BDM Multilink pod (USB
interface)
and works OK, no problems. In this version there are new special drivers
for BDM.
Try the Special Edition first.
b) CW for micro, v6.2 - works OK also.
Regards,
Ioan

Re: DP256 - DP512 - David Simpson - Apr 27 18:49:57 2009

Hi Johnathan,

Freescale released an update for for USB Multilink which fixed issues
with high speed / multicore processors. This was for HCS12 V4.6. I had
several issues with 3.1 with the BDM and fast dual core AMD processors,
but am now using V4.7 , and have no issues programming HSC12, and am
using V6,2 for 08 chips also without any issues. Look in the update and
patches section under codewarrior on the Freescale web site. Searching
for "USB multilink service pack" on their home page will provide a link.

Also, I found that the newer pods (the brown ones) don't like working
with the old debuggers. It is possible that this is firmware based, as
the newer versions update the firmware in the USB BDM. Running a newer
version could have resulted in you BDM being updated.

Have you actually asked Freescale technical support? They have been
fairly prompt in fixing a few issues I had. I also seem to recall that
V3.1 did not program the DP512, and that they sent me an updated FPP
file for the DP512, which fixed that issue.

You can always download a trail version of the latest software and see
if it works. If you don't have a support agreement, you will probably
have to pay to get a full upgrade, but they have reduced their prices
considerably.

Finally, I you really want to stick with 3.1, try getting a different
USB board for you computer. I found that before the USB patch was
released, a plug in USB controller card (with different chip set to
mainboard) worked much better for me.

Good Luck,
David
