PWM ports on HCS12 - Naheed M K - Aug 4 13:53:00 2003

Hi,
Could I drive any motors directly using HCS12 output port pin with
out any Drivers(H-bridge).
If yes then could you please give the partno of that motor preferably
with rotary encoders.

Thanks
Naheed

RE: PWM ports on HCS12 - Allen, Nick - Aug 4 14:18:00 2003

No! Well, maybe an extremely small one. But inductive
kicks from the motor would blow the HCS12.
H-bridge drivers are now available in very small packages.
Check Infineon's TLE4207, for instance (8.75x6mm).
And there are millions of motors you could drive with this.
See Maxon, Portescap, Faulhaber (micromo.com), etc....

Re: PWM ports on HCS12 - Doron Fael - Aug 4 15:38:00 2003

Naheed,

The MC9S12H256 and H128 parts are equipped with outputs that can serve as
H-bridges. These special H-bridges outputs (Ports U, V and W) have the
ability to sink and source an increased current of 20mA (as compared with
10mA on other outputs), in order to allow them to directly drive H-Bridges.

Hope this helps,
Doron
