Oh bother... I was really mad about not being able to get things
straight with INITRM and the RAMHAL bit. I was not able to find even a
mention of the DP256 only being mappable to 16k regions. Especially
since the only documentation of INITRM was not specific to DP256. I
finally found this:

9S12DP256BDGV2.pdf, Pg.24

Note the parenthesis beside RAM to show it's 16k and a hint about
alignment. Isn't there any other place that explains this per device?
