hi,i m working on a arm based ethernet converter (using at91sam7x256).
In my project i need to transmit and recieve data serially using the
usart module of the above mentioned ic,so for my refrence i need a
sample program for serial communication. any information related to
the above will be of great help...

NutOS will do everything you need, right out of the box.

Take a look at the uTasker project at www.uTasker.com. It is free for
non-commerical work and supported at its forum
http://www.uTasker.com/forum/
It is supplied with SAM7X projects for IAR, GNU (eg. Eclipse) and
Crossworks GNU.
It is used, for example, in the following LAN socket modem:
