I'm looking for a hobbist friendly component supplier in the United
Kingdom (UK) that will sell either of these two micro-controllers to
me is quanties up to 10 units at a time.

I don't know a distributor in the UK that offers small quantities. But
you might try http://www.acqura.com/chipsales.asp or www.digikey.com
for small quantities.

Quarndon electronics in Derby will sell very small quantities.
