JTAG ICE interface ready - Graham Davies - Oct 18 9:43:00 2004
I now have my JTAG ICE interface ready for sale. I have made a few
changes since I last spoke of it here, all for the better, I think.
Size - it is a tiny bit smaller. In fact, it is about the size of an
ice cube, which is an excuse for me to call it ... the AVR ICE-Cube!
(see photograph on my Web site for proof -
http://www.ecrostech.com/Products/AvrJtagIce/Intro.htm).
Flash loader - when you first power up the AVR ICE-Cube, the flash
loader starts automatically so you can immediately load the Atmel
software. You may never have to use the boot pad, but it's still
there in case you want to load a particular version of software.
Accessories - I have added two accessories. A cable adapter allows
you to connect to the target with a cable if you don't like perching
the AVR ICE-Cube on the JTAG connector. An STK500 adapter allows you
to use a JTAG ICE with the Atmel STK500, which does not have a JTAG
connector. (The STK500 works with the ATmega16 and ATmega32 which
have JTAG on-chip debug support.)
If you haven't experienced stepping through your code or running to
breakpoints and seeing all the hardware registers and memory follow
your program, you really should. It takes a lot of the guesswork out
of debugging and can save you a great deal of time.
Graham.
