[AVR club] ATmega128 - Programming mode problem - juli169002 - May 30 11:15:34 2006

Hi, I'm a french stagiaire and i use an ATmega128 to drive a network
controller in my card.
I'm using avr studio 4 and a STK500 to programm my component.
In fact i encounter a problem when i want to programm the microcontroller.
When i want to auto-connect it, i've got an error message that says
that the communication can't be established.
It seems that the atmega can't enter programming mode.

I left unconnected the PEN pin of my component.

( i tried to connect it to reset of my stk connector but it doesn't do
anything. Then I also tried to connect it to ground and then the error
message doesn't appear anymore but the read and write operations don't
function properly...)

What can i do?????

Thanks a lot. Best regards,

J B

Hi,
I dont use STK500 but I made some circuits with mega128.

1. PEN pin normally connected to VCC.
2. PDI and PDO pins are not the same as MISO and MOSI pin in mega 128
Make sure your connections are correct.
3. Communication cant be established may mean something wrong with your
STK500's communication with the PC
