[AVR club] Notes on posting to this group - Zack Widup - Jul 28 12:08:13 2006
Hello,
I am one of the moderators of the group. In case someone hasn't noticed,
all who sign up newly for this group and probably most of the "lurkers"
are on "moderated" status. This means that I or another moderator or the
group owner must approve any message that is sent to the group before it
can be sent out. This is not instantaneous, as I don't check my e-mail
every minute. I suspect I'm the most active moderator.
So if you send a message to the group and it doesn't immediately show up,
DO NOT re-send it over and over. It only clogs my mailbox. If it has't
shown up in a few days, THEN try re-posting it. I'm sometimes out of town
over weekends and not near a computer.
I have been removing the "moderated" status of individuals I know from
some of the other AVR discussion groups and some who have demonstrated
that they are not spammers. Those people can post to the group without
moderation.
As a note, you would not believe (well, maybe some of you would) the
amount of spam that is sent to this group. I get it all in my mailbox and
I just delete it so you don't get it in yours. :-)

This guy broadcast at least 13 copies of his message, crossposted to
three groups, within two minutes. I am a Basic-X moderator. I returned
the first two with a private message to him and deleted the other 11.
Three more showed up, so I banned him to stop them. 16 attempts (48 if
you count two other groups) is sufficient - by my measure - to get
booted. If this was his first post, it was a bad start.

I agree. I haven't decided what to do with that person yet. So far I've
just been deleting his extra messages as they show up for approval. But he
IS moderated.
BTW Tom, you're not moderated now. :)

I don't believe in posting html messages. Things always get garbled like
that. UGH!
