help with development kit - csantmail - Oct 29 15:50:00 2003

Hi,

I would like to buy an AVR development kit WITH ALL the things that I
need to develop some new projects. If that kit has a C compiler,
that would be great.

The first project that I have to develop needs communication to 2
serial devices (RS232) and a few parallel input/outputs, and I would
need the kit mainly to develop this project.

Thank you in advance.

Carlos

Carlos,
Try getting the STK500 and STK501 form All American ( www.allamerican.com
<http://www.allamerican.com> ). As for C compiler, they are available from
free to $3000 but don't come with the AVR development kit.

Re: Re: [AVR club] help with development kit - csantmail - Oct 29 16:08:00 2003

Thanks Yosef,

Any particular C compiler (not very expensive) that is widely used,
so I'm not going to be kind of a "isolated programmer"

Does that C compiler that you recommend work with the STK501 ?

With the STK501 + compiler am I ready to work ?

Thanks again!

Carlos

The AVRGCC is widely supported. It seems to me that the more you pay, the more isolated you get.

>Does that C compiler that you recommend work with the STK501 ?

The STK500/501 isn't relevant to the compiler.

>With the STK501 + compiler am I ready to work ?

It's a good start.

RE: Re: [AVR club] help with development kit - Nimni, Yosef - Oct 29 16:27:00 2003

Carlos,
The C compiler line-up is:
1. GNU GCC Compiler ( free)
2. Imagecraft C - http://www.imagecraft.com/software/
<http://www.imagecraft.com/software/>
3. Code vision - http://www.delcomp.com/indexcv.htm
<http://www.delcomp.com/indexcv.htm>
4. IAR ( expensive) - http://www.iar.com <http://www.iar.com>
Which one to use? it is up to you. Look at cost and support. I have found
out that many are using the first three.

The STK501 works with the STK500 and support the parts that have 2 UARTS (
like the mega64 and mega128).
