BX-35 Verify Error, EEPROM - robertguyser - Oct 19 23:42:00 2002

This is sad.

In short, I just received my BX35 and Development Board and, without
it ever working, I am getting the much-despised Verify Error,
External EEPROM . Read all the messages on the board pertaining to
this error on the BX24. No working solutions. IE, checking FIFO,
trying a different computer, trying different

No in short.
I was weary of the BX35 when I first encountered it on BasicX.com(a
few months ago). The main reason was the overall lack of information,
and the non-standard nature of what was available. When it came time
to actually buy a stamp, I chose the BX35 for its inexpensive price
and reportedly better performance.

Things I like:
I got my package in 3days, the time expected Very nice change from
normal internet ordering.

Things I cant stand
My board\chip never worked!! The first thing I did was read the
instructions, and try to see the internal program. That Didnt work,
so I tried helloworld. I compiled and ran, and it says "Verify
Error..." SAD.

Now I just feel burned. Netme3dia\BasicX seem to be set on providing
as little information as possible regarding their products and any
preoblems people have had. No one from netmedia have responded on the
message board seems to the various sufferers, many of whome have had
similar DOA experiences. At the same time as they ignore this
seemingly persistant problem, they quickly respond to petty
criticisms and comments about their products.

Since it is friday, I have not yet contacted the technical support. I
am currently very unhappy with netmedia. I think they offer VERY
inferior information about their expensive products for hobbyists.
They know their market are beginiers in many cases(Not Mine.) and
they still dont provide a real "getting started" tutorial such as the
one Parallax Does.

I Really hope they provide an easy repair. Weither its a quick
replacement\troubleshooting replacement chip sent out to verify my
problem, a essy phone-fix, or whatever... As it is, their web page is
pretty pathetic when compared with the pages of other companies in
the MPU\STAMP business. This is not limited to parallax. All of the
other stamp manufacturers-marketers provide better information and
helpfull advice on their web pages - These are the things that made
them succesfull . Meanwhile everything about basicX is "Its better
than ....... and cheaper(in BX35s case)........ I hope Im not overreacting. Thank you for reading. Im sure im not the only one. Maybe basicX can
change its info policy and grow to become the company we all want it
to be, because face it, prices on stamps need to be driven down by
competition. they are Highly Overpriced. BasicX could really have
something with this powerhouse $30 Basic Stamp!!!! I was ready to
love this thing!!

I have had a bit of experience with the BX35.

See http://www.phanderson.com/basicx/BX35.html

If you are willing to send the unit to me, I will debug it for you.

You can respond to me at pha(at)phanderson.com
