connect with USB - Ellen Sundh - Oct 27 10:08:15 2006
Hi!
I wonder where I can find a kit where I can connect my basicx to my computer via USB? Is
there a module for that?
Thanks in advance!

Hello Ellen
I'm connecting my BX24 viaUSB, no probs...
Simply buy a USB-RS232 converter cable and terminals...
When you connect it to the PC for the 1st time, WinXP will install the right drivers for
it and you will have a new "com" port which is actually your USB connection.
Works perfectly...

Hi Ellen
I recently purchased a USB to TTL cable from FTDI. The TTL232R looks
like a USB cable with bare wire ends. It has the needed ATN lines
required for programming a BX-24. In single quantities, it runs about
$20 US.
As a side note, not all USB converters are created equal. The FTDI
based cables seem to be more than adaquate for BX24 purposes. Typical
eBay cables sometimes don't transfer the needed ATN line, so don't go
for the cheapo $5 jobs.

In my classroom we program the BX-24 using Serial-to-USB cables sold
by NetMedia (see http://www.basicx.com/Products/usb1/usb1.htm) and
Robodyssey motherboards (see
http://www.basicxandrobotics.com/additions/RAMB2/index.html and
http://mivasecure.abac.com/bpatton/merchant.mvc?
Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RS&Product_Code=RAMBII&Category_Code=M). They
both work seemlessly.
