BasicX Message Board Suggestion? - tsprap - Jan 1 22:29:32 2007

I would think that it would be easier and more convenient to have a
BasicX message board similar to AVRfreaks or even Parallax's forum.

I would think it would even be more active because it is a lot more
user friendly....and way more organized.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Ryan

It is quiet, I agree, but is it unfriendly here or do you just prefer
a different user interface? I believe other influences have reduced
traffic, but what would you change? Message indexing? File
categories? What is disorganized?

I underdstand this forum is maintained by a volunteer. He doesn't
have the time to invest in building another forum but perhaps you do,
if you wish. Let us know when it's ready.

When I mean unorganized I mean like all the messages are just jumbled
together. On forums each "message" has its own page. The search is 10x
more effective. I can set-up a forum but dont have a domain nor a
server....though I can possibly set up a free one and register a free
.tk domain to it.

Im about to go to sleep for school but I may be able to set this up
tommorow and get it finished by the weekend.

Yahoo Groups offers _Group by Topic_ if you want to see messages in
threads.

I suggest that you spend some time thinking about how you will manage
a forum before you build one. You'll find that you cannot just open a
door, and then abandon it when classes get tough or you graduate or
choose to become a pharmacist, and go about your life and expect great
things to come of it. How will it manage spam and porn without you?

I agree. The Yahoo Groups service is far from perfect, and it's not
very pretty, but it has very little downtime, and it won't lose
interest and abandon us anytime soon.

That's not to say that you wouldn't maintain a forum properly forever,
only that it's unlikely. Put another way, who will watch over the
forum when you go on vacation? I doubt that Yahoo lets all of their
employees take their vacations at the same time.

There is a big difference between "I can" and "I will". And there are a
lot of "buts"; you just started counting them...
