Hey everyone. Sorry if this message is posted multpile times. I am a
mechanical engineer at Rice University and i got stuck with an
electrical engineering design project for my senior design. We are
basically trying to outfit an RC toy known as the XUFO with a camera
and gps system to serve as a tracking or surveillence device among a
few other things. We have everything completely ready except for the
gps unit. We have extreme weight considerations because the craft is
so light, so we need a gps system (or some way of tracking position
and then overlaying it on a map) that is within 2 ounces maximum.
Someone we knew mentioned that if we look into the basicx 24 that it
can send out a serial stamp that we can pick up on a reciever
connected to a computer, and that with some programming we may be able
to use it. Does anyone have any experience with this? How much
coding does it or would it take? And can anyone suggest an
alternative route? Thanks so much for your time.

Hi,

I found a small RF link transmitter that you should look into. It's can send a signal 300 feet and is very small and it's look like a TO220 transistor.

Thank you so much!...that actually looks so perfect. and so cost
efficient too. Do you know anything about what would go into
powering that and getting a reciever to detect it?

hi. i'm currently working on a university project as well concerning a GPS and BX-24. the GPS unit is a DS-GPM available from www.totalrobots.co.uk.

only problem is that this GPS returns arrays of number so i'm not sure if it'd suit your needs i.e. on a map. it sounds like you want a sat. nav. type system used in cars that shows a little symbol of exactly where you are on a map?
