I think anyone who wants to get into microcontroller programming
should seriously consider using the BX-24. Someone in this thread
cautioned to buy two of them because you will burn them out, but that
is only true if you make your own circuitry. If you want to be up
and running in seconds and want rock-solid performance, look into
Robodyssey's Advanced Motherboard (the RAMB II) at www.robodyssey.com.
I am a high school teacher and over the past six years my students
have used over 50 BX-24's and RAMB's with great success, and all are
still working flawlessly. My students use them in firefighting
robots, soccer playing robots, autonomous vehicles, we've even
launched them into space. None have failed. Integrating a GPS is
easy to do with the BX-24 and RAMB, RF communication is a snap, as
are such things as sonic rangers, IR rangers, relays, LCD panels, etc.
See my website at www.basicxandrobotics.com for more information on
programming with the BX-24.
