Right Tom! What an arrogance of this person! Go to the library!

Although questions can sometimes seem ignorant and arrogant, I think
beginners are most often sincere in their pleas for assistance. I
realize those few who remain in this discussion group are "experts",
but perhaps we can all be more constructive in our responses to newbie
questions? Doing so may help encourage people to stay with the group
that, as Tom noted months ago, is suffering from a dearth of
correspondences?

Hi, chris i think i've read your book, very good and helpful i enjoyed
working through it alot, but it didn't cover com ports which brought me
here, i have no understanding of the requirements for communication via
a com port and need to to start a new project (i'm not at school, and
am not trying to cheat a course, and i enjoy working out stuff allot
but if you have no idea at all of how to set up a com sub it's a bit
daunting) i've asked twice for help and quite frankly it's like asking
a psychologist a question, so either no body knows the answer or their
being cagie with their knowledge, so it feels like a dead end and i
need to start looking elsewhere for answers, if this group is slowing
down i think the answer is more positive answers.

sorry for hijacking this thread.

adam..

i am by no means a programmer or electrical person, i am a mechanical engineer yet i find it intriguing to learn microcontrollers. i have the basicX stamp and i found few sources to learn how to program it. i went as far as making LEDs blink and a servo motor turn. i liked the Language and i found it easy but i laked the understanding of the basic elements of control such as clocking, serial data transfer and the use of ICs along with the microcontroller. finally i found parallax microcontrollers and they have a great bottled up courses to teach you and spoon feed you basic knowledge about microcontrollers in general. i do not like there programing language but the hardware and the principles are well coordinated. you can even download there course work for free.
good luck and thank you everyone for keeping me engaged with microcontrollers.
