How to create a micropump... - naimead - Mar 15 5:42:49 2009

Hello all,

I have a question regarding my latest project,

I need to use a pump that sends very small volumes of gas inside a tube and removes the same ammount of gas from the tube. The volume of air will be around 1-3cc and this addition/removal of the air could be accomplished several times per second.Have you got any ideas?I was thinking of a micromotor connected to basicX and a syringe but i don't know if the motor would be able to accomplish this task in this small scale...

regards,

naimead

Hi - I just read this message.

This is interesting. Have you thought about attaching a high torque servo to the end of the syringe? You could pulse the servo to move 1 or 2 degrees clockwise, and then 1 or 2 degrees counter clockwise. I am kind of envision a design from the servo to the syringe to that of a car piston.

So basically the car piston does a full 360 degree turn. You would just pulse 100 degrees then have a slight delay, then pulse 98 degrees, then delay, then pulse 100 degrees etc. You would use the PulseOut command.

The servos are pretty quick so you could do this multiple times per second for sure.

Good Luck!
