BX24 - Author Unknown - Oct 18 0:13:00 1999

Hi everyone,

I am new to the basic x list. I have been playing with a BS2 for a while and was planning on going to a BS2SX as I ran out of space for my code. Then someone showed me the BX24. This looks great. Can anyone who knows the BS2 let me know how hard the language for the BX24 is to learn, compared to the BS2.

I haven't ordered one yet, but I was told that the documents and compiler can be downloaded from their website. The only documents and compiler I could find seemed to be for the BX-1. Can anyone point me to the documents and the compiler?

Thanks.

Regards
Chris Parker

The language for the BX24 is a lot like VB. Its about as hard to learn as
the BS2 since it is based on Basic. IF you know VB, then its just that much
easier. I also started out with the BS2 but then got a BX1, now I'm gonna go
with the BX24 as it has the best of both worlds.

I'm also still trying to find out where I can download the compiler and docs
(Posted this question earlier). If you want to get a jump start on the
language, download the BX1 docs as it uses the same language (although there
will be some differnet commands and stuff between the two).

The BX24 arrived the other day. What a relief to get around base2 math to do
logs and exponentials!

Perusing serial.bas, I was wondering (given different instructions BX01 vs BX24)
whether, to recreate the Parallax "Debug" function, it is necessary to poll
each digit, convert to ASCII code and insert into queue etc. to get it out via
serial port.

A function "Cstr" - like VB - would be nice.

I recieved my BX24 last week, The learning curve
was a little stiff (not many examples to look at).
But you got to love the multi-tasking.. Ive crammed
about 4k of code into a lighting and wave controller
for my reef tank. The controller is menu driven via
RS232 to set the clock, wave times, lighting start and
end times for multiple channels. The menu, Wave, and
Lighting all run under different tasks and pass data
off to each other.

I would like to add a PH meter and alarm set points
to the unit via one of the adc inputs. I havent been
able to find any info for this kind of interface.

Would anyone know where i might look???? A personal thanks to the guys at NetMedia, great chip....

Neat project!

Any chance of posting some pictures of the tank and the interface?

Would love to put it up on the BasicX web site.

Jack

BX24 - Peter H. Anderson - Feb 25 2:13:00 2000

An unabashed plug!

We sell the BX24 ($39.95). We now include a power regulator kit which
includes a 7806 (for the PWR on the BX24) and a 7805 for all peripheral
circuitry. The kit includes the regulators, filter caps, diodes, LEDs and
schematics. Also included is a momentary pushbutton for use on the "Reset".
This is a free add-on for people who buy the BX24 from us.

I now list the BX24 on http://www.amazon.com zShops. Search on BasicX.
But, it is also available directly from me.

Thanks.
