sharp ir current - Pat Marion - Jan 20 22:30:00 2001

Ok, I have four sharp GP2D12 infrared sensors. I read somewhere that they
each use 25 mA of current. I was hoping to run them all from the 5 volt
regulated output on pin 21 of the basicx24. But I'm not sure if it could
handle a total of 100 mA. I could just use a 6 volt battery pack to run the
sensors, but it would be a lot more convienient to use pin 21 for the power.
Is this okay or would I blow something up? How much current can pin 21
handle? Also, if I can't run the sensors from 21, could I run the sensors
from a 6 volt battery pack and use the same battery pack to power the basicx
(via pin 24)?

Pat,
I would not try it. Add in a 3 terminal regulator, or other source
to power the Sharp IR modules.
