Sorry to b!tc# and curse, but can we move to deja or another server... I had to sign up for yahoo and now I am getting bombarded by email. Any word on why Siteplayer is not working? It told me I had both BasicX and SitePlayer. -E |

Strange; I haven't gotten any new mail as a result of the move, and I'm on three or four eGroups lists. Are you sure it's a result of this specific list? -- -- Tom Igoe |

E: What kind of E-mail are you being bombarded with? I have noticed several complaints on here regarding Yahoo and apparently junk E-mails however I have been on this list for quite some time and I don't get any of that plus, I signed up on the Yahoo groups for something completely different and even with that I have not gotten any unwanted E-mails. Of course I do NOT use the Yahoo E-mail system, just my AOL E-mail, is it possible that is why? Just curious about what eveyone is complaining over. Cheerful regards, Randy |

I used my Hotmail account to sign up to Yahoo groups, and all of the sudden I get 5 email from smutt-land. I only use my hotmail account for internal testing and no one knew it up until I signed up for the yahoo transition. Dunno what to say... I don't know what happened to Siteplayer either I got one digest after the trasition and never more. Well, enough of my complaining... -E --- In basicx@y..., Tom Igoe <tom.igoe@n...> wrote: > >Sorry to b!tc# and curse, but can we move to deja or another > >server... I have not received any emails from yahoo either. I would go back into your account information and make sure you don't have the little check mark checked in the box that says something like "Yes, I would like to receive occasional emails from yahoo sponsors" I don't remember the exact verbiage but it was something along those lines. I haven't gotten any spam that I can say is a result of the eGroups to Yahoo changeover. However, when I went to www.egroups.com I see they want me to "Link my eGroups Account." Did those of you who are getting spam click on that button? I haven't clicked on it yet. Patrick Murphy Tom Igoe wrote: > > >Sorry to b!tc# and curse, but can we move to deja or another > >server... I haven't noticed any excess Spam since the Yahoo takeover. Hotmail is one of the Spamers biggest suppliers of email addresses, if you have a hotmail account there is no telling how much crap mail You will receive. Hotmail is sneaky, they usually wait a few weeks before selling both your Hotmail and the email address you used to sign up with. This way you don't think it was them who sold your info. ---------- From: [SMTP:] Sent: Monday, January 29, 2001 7:58 AM To: Subject: [BasicX] Re: Can we move I used my Hotmail account to sign up to Yahoo groups, and all of the sudden I get 5 email from smutt-land. I have noticed something interesting in the past couple weeks... All of a sudden I am getting spam with my name inserted into the body of the message. The spam I was receiving before this never was addressed to me, they only had my email address, not my name (The spam I have been receiving up till now was mostly a result of a single posting to a Usenet VB group, back before I knew better...) I am a bit suspicious of this change. I don't think that Yahoo is necessarily directly responsible for this, but their e-groups may not be as well protected against automated email harvesting, such as occurs on Usenet. Also, I have had a Hotmail account for a few years and receive absolutely no spam on that account, even though I use it frequently. Well I'm on hotmail too, and I don't get crap mail there (I guess they haven't sold my email address yet!). Given the Nature of the Beast (tm) do you think it's wise to cast such allegations around the place?? Besides, I'd expect AOL to be a bigger contender in this arena... :-) D. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. |
