Motor Drivers - Classified - Mar 29 16:42:00 2001

Hi where is a good place i could get some good pwm motor drivers and
what are the most common used type?

Re: Motor Drivers - Dennis or Shannon Moyes Clark - Mar 29 23:44:00 2001

It is rare to get both the PWM and the drivers for the motors in the
same package. If you just need the chips to drive the motors, then it
depends on how big of motor? So, do you need to generate PWM, or, do
you need driver chips for the motors that take PWM? What current draw
do you expect from your motors?

Okay, one of us is missing something... what's wrong with using the PULSOUT
command? That's the easy way to directly control a servo, one I/O line per.

BTW, anybody have any good sources for the current requirements of servos?

Totally. I use pulseout for servos all the time, here's some example
code built on NetMedia's servo example:

they are not talking about servos here.
the subject is PWM for driving gear motors.

I2C device that makes the PWM off board of the micro.

Programmable Pulse Width Modulator
The DS1050 generates a square wave output in standard frequencies of 1,
5, and 10 kHz, with a duty cycle variable from 0% to 100% in 3% steps. the only place I have found to order them had a $50 min.
if you find one with out that then let me know.

I want some of these chips my self.

I would be interested in such a chip too...

How about making one out of a 555 IC? Would that be too unreliable?
I remember seeing a PWM circuit using 555 somewhere on the web...

Burak Uzman

Re: Re: Motor Drivers - Tony Brenke - Mar 30 20:32:00 2001

there are many ways to make PWM.

using the chip below (8 pin dip) is a much smaller solution then I have
found any place else. I did find a source for "samlpes"
they have a list on the web site for distrubetures.
I sent a message to the one in arazona for 2 samples.

I will let you all know if they show up. --- wrote:

Re: Re: Motor Drivers - Dennis Clark - Mar 31 0:49:00 2001

I understand what you mean. I got to the point where I coded my
own chip to do it. On my web page (notice I say that a lot?) I've
got a PIC 12C508 project that creates a PWM chip you talk to at 9600
baud where you get 128 steps at 1KHz PWM, The reason I don't give
full 256 steps is that with the MSB set bits 0 and 1 set the direction
bits latched on the PIC that work with the L293/L298/754410 chips.
I use these chips to drive the HVW Tech L298 motor driver board on my
SpeedRacer robot via a Stamp II - A BX24 can drive them too using the
COM3 type serial port that allows you to change pins for serial to
any output pin. Check it out on http://www.verinet.com/~dlc/botlinks.htm
and bonk on the "serial PWM chip" link.

have fun,
DLC

circuit needed - Dave Houston - Apr 4 8:46:00 2001

I have a module that gives me the 1ms X-10 120KHz bursts from the
powerline. This is an AC signal that is about 7.0V peak-to-peak.

I need a circuit to demodulate this and give me a 0-5V pulse.
