The BasicX compiler beta 5 version is available for download: http://www.basicx.com/beta/ The main change was a speed increase. Compared to V1.48, the new compiler is approximately 20 percent to 30 percent faster for large programs, and substantially faster for small programs. For a summary of the changes relative to V1.48, check out: http://www.basicx.com/beta/Rev_History.txt Comments and suggestions are welcomed. -- Frank Manning -- NetMedia, Inc. |

The hell with the speed increase, you expanded cStr()! That's great. Of course, you released it three days after I installed beta 4 on all the machines in my lab. Nice timing. Still, looks like the update is worth it. -- -- Tom Igoe |

I believe Cstr() was expanded before beta 5 ----- Original Message ----- From: Tom Igoe To: Sent: Saturday, January 19, 2002 8:52 PM Subject: Re: [BasicX] Compiler Beta 5 Available >The BasicX compiler beta 5 version is available for download: > > http://www.basicx.com/beta/ > >The main change was a speed increase. Whoa, better ship seatbelts with that BETA-5 compiler... :) James R. No kidding. I am impressed by the speed increase. The compiler moves at a rate it should move at now. -- -- Tom Igoe |

But, I miss my "beta-4 compile" cat-naps... :) James R. Boy, I can't wait to try out Beta 5...but 14Mb!! On a modem this takes quite a while; actually it never finishes on an ISP that resets about once an hour due to glitches (it's in Budapest). Is the 14Mb for the program only, or...is there some chance that the program is quite a bit smaller, but the nice docs and app notes, etc. make up a good part, and they aren't absolutely needed? Netmedia, thank you for working so hard on the compiler. Paul --- In basicx@y..., "James R. Parish" <wiz@a...> wrote: > But, I miss my "beta-4 compile" cat-naps... :) > > James R. Stop that! I gained a few pounds thanks to the BasicX compiler and it's worldwide famous compile cat-naps....(only joking!) I feel the need.....the need for speed !!!
