I bought the BDS development station from Netmedia and it is written in their manual that it can be used with Basic Stamp 2. However the Parallax software cannot see the BS2 module on the BSD, regardless of jumper positions. Called Netmedia support two days ago and nobody called me back. Had anyone had any success with BSD and other Stamps at all? Thanks for the help. Alex. |

The only difference in the programming connection between the BX-24 and the BS2 is that the Stamp should have a connection between 6 & 7 (DSR & RTS) on the DB9 programming connector. Without this connection the Parallax software cannot see the Stamp module. If the board is compatible then you must have missed something in the specs. Its good to be able to interchange between the two processor but why not stick with the BX-24, which is more powerful and generally much easier and logical to work with. Test the programming cable and board connections with a meter to see if this interconnection exists. -----Original Message----- From: Alex Chaihorsky [mailto:] Sent: Thursday, February 14, 2002 5:47 AM To: Subject: [BasicX] Development Station does not work with BS2? Thanks, Keith! Thanks for your prompt response. I checked the BDS schematics in their manual and on the board itself and no, there is no connect between DB9 pins 6 and 7. I re-read the specs for the BSD (you can look at them on Netmedia site http://www.basicx.com/Products/BXDS/docs/BXDevStationv1.PDF) and again - found that it supposed to be compatiable with BS2. I will try to get an answer from Netmedia. As to your question (why use bs-2 at all) - there are tons of existing code for bs2 and some of it works just fine. Also I need stable serial communication with VB application in my new project and bs2 has a powerful SERIN/SEROUT commands that make this appear straightfoward. I also like to use ATOM for its In-Circuit Debugger. ATOM's language is a superset of BS2... Also there is a new "Javelin" Stamp from Parallax due next month... I made soldered a jumber on mine. BasicX stuff doesn't car about it. Parallax only uses it for their Loopback test which really only tells you that something is wired to the serial port(it will pass with no STAMP). Also check you have option jumpers correct, specifcally the one for the ATN line though I think if they are right for BX24, they are right for BS2/2p On 14 Feb 2002 at 11:26, wrote: > > Thanks, Keith! > > Thanks for your prompt response. > I checked the BDS schematics in their manual and on the board itself > and no, there is no connect between DB9 pins 6 and 7. I finally got it officially from Netmedia: yes, connecting pins 6 and 7 on DB9 connector wll do the trick and make BS2 work. And the BX24 is Ok with that, so I will make it permanent. Thanks everybody for advice. Alex. --- In basicx@y..., "Mike DeMetz" <miked@e...> wrote: > I made soldered a jumber on mine.
