Ann: ALTERA prototyping board - Martin Schoeberl - Oct 27 2:44:00 2002

As there are so many boards for the Xilinx family I would like to support the Altera users.
The board contains everything needed for cpu designs:

ACEX 1K50 FPGA
512 KB Flash
128 KB Ram
Serial line driver
Watchdog

The Flash can be used to store configuration data for the FPGA and application program/data. The FPGA can be configured with a ByteBlasterMV download cable or loaded from the flash (with a small cpld on board).
The board is a little different from other prototyping boards: It's more like a module with all unused FPGA pins connected to female, down facing pinheads. This makes it easy to use it on your own pcb with the periphery you need.
I'm using this board for a 32 bit Java processor and there is enough room in the FPGA for UART, ISA interface, sigma delta ADC,.. You can find VHDL files for this processor and the periphery on the web site.

Kind regards
Martin Schoeberl PS.: I don't want to start a X. vs. A. war. Both companies provide us with fine products. I've just used Altera FPGAs for years.
