FreeBSD tools ? - Kathy Quinlan - Jan 11 11:34:00 2005

Hi All,

Once again after M$ Windows XP destroyed its self, I am again thinking
of going back to FreeBSD.

I have my AVR stuff and I can buy a reasonable CAD package, but I have
no idea about FPGA tools. I will be mainly using the Xilinx Spartan 3

Regards,

Kat.

The Xilinx Foundation ISE (full and Base-X versions) include binaries
that run fine on Linux. I'm using Fedora Core 3, which isn't officially
suported, but I've had no problems. Possibly it will work OK on FreeBSD
using the Linux emulation features.

Xilinx has stated that release 7.1 of WebPACK will include Linux support.
7.1 of Foundation ISE is due out in February, so WebPACK shouldn't be
far behind.

I've also run WebPACK on Windows on VMware on Linux, which was somewhat
slow, and WebPACK on WINE on Linux, which was (to my surprise) very much
slower.

Eric
