I'm too lazy to do it myself, so I expect everyone else to wait on me

I'm too good to do mere hard work.

Re: request - Luke Teyssier - Mar 25 18:20:01 2009
Dear Demanding lazy student,
1) A trivial google search (8 bit cpu vhdl) gave several great leads, plus an
opportunity to learn something, rather than demand it from other people. Before
posting to the list, do enough work on your own that it's clear you are not
asking an FAQ or "do it for me" question.
2) It's a privilege to have the opportunity to work on this type of project in
an academic setting. Many people have to do it on their own time while working a
50-60 hour a week job and raising a family. Don't squander your time in school.
The ONLY way to get anything worthwhile out of an engineering degree is to work
hard.
3) A well formed question that won't piss of the list looks like this:
"Hey guys, I'm building an 8 bit cpu that looks like an 8051 subset. I'm having
a problem with the ALU. here is a code fragment. When I run this X of operation,
the carry flag doesn't work right. Correct behavior is Y, but it does Z.... I'm
using a Spartan 3 XC3S400. Thanks in advance for any help for ideas.
Then there would be a follow up: "Thanks so much to everyone who helped me solve
that ALU problem. Here is the resolution and the corrected code. Thanks to X and
Y for their suggestions."
Please do A, B & C for all questions. Otherwise, you will get a very chilly
response (or get ignored)

As I said over on the Electronics 101 groupe, March Madness isn't just about basketball.
Just about this time of year we get flooded with questions like "I need a senior project,
pls send it".
Sometimes these questions aren't well received.

I normally let those posts go through to the keeper, but the sort of "I
want it, and I want it NOW" attitude got me a bit angry this time. I was
going to point the other guy asking about an 8 bit micro to the Micro8
on my web site, but the PicoBlaze is probably a better solution.
How are you going with the line following robot using computer vision ?
I started a new mailing list on yahoo called FPGA_CV (FPGA Computer
Vision) but there is not much activity. Most people are concerned about
protecting their IP so don't discuss what they are doing on the list.
I'm in a similar boat, having started a PhD program at RMIT last year. I
just don't have the time these days to work on any open source projects.

The last thing I read on computer vision was in BYTE magizine many
years ago. It discused the pipelined eye-brain interface of image processing.
In my view point that is the way to follow, rather than all in one chip solution.
The second problem with robots is they have no primevil instincs to follow -
eat - sleep - move - sex - think/question - defend - feel

There is a fair bit of work going on around the world on Bionic Eyes.
The trick is to know how the brain encodes the information in the optic
nerve. Google for "Bionic Eye"
Here is one article:
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2007/02/17/1171405504244.html
You might like to check out a program on the ABC here in Australia
called "All in the mind" which covers many different aspects of the
human mind. There is a program entitled "The big buzz-ness of small
brains" which talks about robotic crickets and bees that have developed
very sensitive eyes. The advantage of studying insects is that they have
very small brains and yet they are capable of doing remarkable things
like searching for food and finding their way back to the nest. I'll let
you explore the site. You might find some of my posts on the "All in the
Mind" blog. Don't laugh too hard :-)

Hello abhishek you did'nt mention the necessary requirement for 8 bit CPU like add, sub,
which type of multiplication/division etc.I hope i will provide this to you as soon as
possible after your reply. Thank you.

Gee I really wish you guys would do your own assignments...... I
really don't think the purpose of this mailing list is to propagate
code. It is more about answering questions.
