This list is for discussion of the design and implementation of field-programmable gate array based processors and integrated systems. It is also for discussion and community support of the XSOC Project (see http://www.fpgacpu.org/xsoc).

Hi Holland, It sounds like you could use the following, since you are using Altera and VHDL: - Rapid Prototyping of Digital Systems, Hamblen / Furman http://users.ece.gatech.edu/~hamblen/book/book.htm Although much of the code is demonstrated with an Altera system in the book, I have synthesised alot of the modules to a Xilinx system easily. A very enjoyable book:) Charles McManis has some VHDL book recommendations, and his ratings of them at: http://www.mcmanis.com/chuck/robotics/fpga/index.html For free, although it is a Xilinx manual, I believe you will get a great benefit from having a read of the following: Xilinx Synthesis Technology (XST) User Guide 3.1i http://support.xilinx.com/support/sw_manuals/3_1i/download/ Just an extra one that I had to add, but slighly off-topic :)... In the interests of encouraging good system design and coding style for reuse, I would like to add the following: - Reuse Methodology Manual For System-On-A-Chip Designs, Michael Keatting, Pierre Bricaud I recommend this more to practising designers, rather than students starting out. The price of it can be a little prohibitive for students. Also, it's not a book for learning VHDL - it's more of a "good HDL coding practice" manual, plus many other issues to do with reuse of IP for ASIC and FPGA design. Hope that helps :) Best regards Tony Burch http://www.burched.com.au/ Lowest cost, easiest-to-use FPGA prototyping kits! > I am just starting out learning VHDL.
