Burch in now listing a new version of thier Spartan II FPGA board, they have pictures but not schematics (yet?). Similar to the old board, looks smaller and the header modules seem new, so I'm assuming that the headers have a new pin out, hopefully with extra grounds :-)). The previous one didn't really want to go above 46 Mhz or so in my testing and for some VGA experiments that wasn't cutting it. I got the new one and the other change was that the CPU I/O board no longer has an oscillator on it so if you're doing a sysclk that is not a multiple of your video clock you'll need to add another clock source. |

Hey guys, I am looking at buyin a Virtex E board or a Virtex 2 board with very high gate density ( 2 million and more). The board must also have a Ethernet Interface (10/100 or gigabit) and flash, cpld, and parallel port. We would be buying these boards in high quantity. I just wanted to know whether any of you guys know where I can get one such board and with such high density. ( and ofcourse low cost !!) ANy hlpe would be greatly appreciated. There are some boards that meet those reguirements; however.... The company the mfg'd the boards has shrunk form 200 to 20 in the last 7 months and the Qty is limited to less than 100. If you are serious about obtaining some of these, VirtexE 1000 and 2000, populated develpment boards.... email me again and I will contact the remnants of Malibu ( the cut back company ). You have to decide whether you want 5V I/O compatibility or not. Burch board picture shows Spartan-2 chip (5V tolerant). If 3.3V is OK, then I would suggest NU Horizons D2E board. This board is pretty much the same, but it is built around Spartan-2E chip (200 KMG - kilo marketing gates :). It has socket for one small fixed frequency oscillator (docs say the one that comes with the board is 50MHz), printer port (8 lines buffered, others connected to the FPGA) and serial port driver. It is $99 and probably will ship around in USA a bit faster than from Australia. Not working for them, just bought the board some time ago. I'm a bit disappointed in the NU board because it could do one of two changes for me to be happier with it - use XC2S200 for 5V I/O or XC2S300E for higher density with minimum added cost. And the board uses female 40-pin connectors, not male, so it would connect well into headers on other board with 74 I/O lines. If I want to connect the board to another board that has everything else on it, I need to make custom M-F cables. |
