I am wondering at what scale you are refering? Are you talking about something like a model railroad scale?

If I had to build a railroad scale traffic light system, then I think that I would use a L.E.D. display chip such as the MAX7219. I have personally posted some code that will interface a P.C., MC68HC11, and the MAX7219 or MAX7221 systems together. Check out the "Files" section of this group I think I put it under the heading "pick to light", or something like that. Essentially, with the MAX7219/7221 chips, a person is able to use various electronic display devices (i.e. L.E.Ds, 7-segment L.E.D displays, etc.) All that you would have to do is customize the aformentioned program to meet your needs. In fact, I don't think you will have to change the program at all because I made it so flexable. You would have to customize the VB section of the interface to your liking. I could go on and on, but without knowing what scale you are wanting to do such a project in, I may be wasting my time. Inform me if you think that my example will work for you, and I will be glad to help you
interface a VB program with it. I worked many hours with the MAX chips so I can probably help you out if your scale is smaller. Anyway, I anticipate your responce.
