Technical discussions about Freescale Microcontrollers: M68HC11. (Freescale Semiconductor is a Subsidiary of Motorola).

Re: Off Topic - Old Timers - Dianne Best - Feb 18 9:22:00 2006

What a bunch of old f##rts we are! LOL! ;-)

I was born in 1949 but didn't come to computing until
college (1969) when I got to play with a 360. It was
the only course in my life that I ever Aced.

I did 10 years R&D with the Motorola family in
industrial applications (hardware & software) but have
worked in other areas for the last 20 years. I miss
uP-ing and do it at home now just for little things
around the house. Doesn't everybody have uP-based
gadgets around their home? LOL!

Nigel - VE3ID ?? No kidding? I am VE4DI

Hmmm, would you be interested in joining the effort for a new repeater
controller? I designed the present one in 1974, which is now at VE3RPT.
It uses a 6809 to control a 16 by 16 crosspoint matrix, but the software
wasn't finished until 1984 due to lack of a micro (and a programmer)
with sufficient power! This time I am not designing the hardware until
the programmer has the specs nailed down. Alex, VA3GPL is the only
programmer on the project right now. We are planning to replace the
logic in the CN tower repeater system first by building a complete clone
with the new controller and wheeling it in as a whole unit, since access
to the tower is difficult.

The 1974 hardware was also used for the VE3SUE,SSS,TTT, systems in SW
Ont. with a LSI-11 controller and different software.

I am trying to get a new project going using the 68HC12, one per
repeater, and linking via CAN. Sounds like it might be right up your
alley. There is a lot of new stuff to do, digital modulation and VoIP
being two.

Let's take this off-list: you can join my yahoo group if you are not
totally anti-yahoo!

This e-mail is not and cannot, by its nature, be confidential. En route from me to you,
it will pass across the public Internet, easily readable by any number of system
administrators along the way. If you have received this message by mistake, it would be
ridiculous for me to tell you not to read it or copy to anybody else, because, let’s face
it, if it’s a message revealing confidential information or that could embarrass me
intensely, that’s precisely what you’ll do. Who wouldn’t?

Likewise, it is superfluous for me to claim copyright in the contents, because I own that
anyway, even if you print out a hard copy or disseminate this message all over the known
Universe. I don’t know why so many corporate mail servers feel impelled to attach a
disclaimer to the bottom of every e-mail message saying otherwise. If you don’t either,
why not e-mail your corporate lawyers and system administrators and ask them why they
insist on contributing so much to the waste of bandwidth.

Hey!

You guys are telling my story!
Born 1949...Ham etc.
	I did 20 years R&D at M.I.T.

I have 2 old 6809 repeater controllers I built, with all kinds of bells
and lights.

Re: Off Topic - Old Timers - VE3ID - Feb 18 15:41:00 2006

So join the group on yahoo and let's build a killer controller!

Once we get a system going with individual controllers linked together,
we can start using digital modulation on one of the connected groups and
make a gateway into the future!

right now the suggested chip is a 9S12C128, with DTMF decoder and SD
card external
