This could be a nice solution for your test/debug environment.

The lpc2104 Color LCD board I used for the chess game - and now for a
user interface with large fonts - has only 16 kB of RAM.
I do not want to reprogram the flash for each test so wanted to use an
lpc2106 instead.

Simple solutions are the best! I tied the reset line of the lpc2104
low and connected the lpc2106 board in parallel with the lpc2104 game
board.
