I am totally confused at this stage. I want to work on USB device controller on lpc2148. I
want to connect it to PC. I don't want readymade code. This is my final year project. I
have to develop my own code. From where should i start?
I am referring USB complete and user manual for lpc2148.
What can be applications of arm as USB device?
Pls Help!

Search the web for NXP application notes. Of course, these will have code so no
peeking...
Everything you could possibly need is in the sample code here:
www.jcwren.com/arm
It is built around the FreeRTOS operating system.

Data logger, MP3 player (use USB mass storage to receive songs from host), sophisticated
game controller, the ability of the PC to generate the kinds of signals uCs are involved
with (I2C, SPI, PWM, servo controls) or even a PC controlled Halloween special effects
controller.
For the Halloween controller, the 2148 would handle peopls sensors, control special
effects (pneumatic valves, lamp dimming, perhaps communicate over RS485 link, etc. The
high level stuff would be done at the PC level.

LPC2148 is USB device and cannot be configured as USB HOST. I believe you
need a USB host to connect your pendrive.

You can port a software version USB master.

I don't think anyone has done this yet, the LPC community would love to see this
working.

No, it's not possible, appart from the experiments showed up early in
this thread (may be it was other thread, they used an atmel...)... this
experiment
was in the edge of USB specification, and I think it's only valid as an
experiment.
You need an USB host chip. LPC2148 doesn't have host capability.

The Software Defined Radio Ham community uses that software with
their radios and it works well, but it's not a Host, its for the device.

Fully USB 1.1 compliant low-speed device, except handling of communication
errors and electrical specifications.
""
I'm not sure if you can't handle USB mass storage, for example and so on in
"Low speed", anyway, what I meant is that it's out of the USB
specifications.
May be it can be interesting for very low cost projects, but not sure if
it's safe or not.

What the OP wanted and what has been discussed are two very different things.
The OP wanted a student project for a USB device.
Someone else asked for using a USB mass storage device on a LPC2148.
So, is the OP still listening ??
What are you going to do this year ??

The OPs message stated:
