Your request is very vague. What are you trying to accomplish?
One way:
use the SCI connected to a TTL <-> RS232 converter chip
like the MAX232
connect the RS232 I/F to an external modem
have the MC68HC11 send commands to the modem
to call your ISP using dial-up access
get/write a SLIP layer for the MC68HC11
get/write a TCP/IP layer

My request is vague because what i have been asked to do was("Connect the M68HC11 to the
internet" - that was the request) vague too.
I did it as you also suggested - i found an article describing how to connect a HC08 to the Internet, using UDP/IP and SLIP and i "translated" that for the HC11.
