Greetings, I just found this list while looking for solutions to a problem that I have with my EVBU. I don't know if any one on this list can help out, but I figure it is worth a try. I have a limited knowledge of electronics and even less on microcontrollers. I bought the EVBU to play with and learn. I am running Windows XP and accessing the board via HyperTerminal. I am using a Heath Micorcontroller Learning System for the 5VDC power source. When I first received the board, I could get to the Buffalo prompt without too much trouble. After a couple of days, all I get is one line with a dot in it. That keeps scrolling. If I try to reset the board, it only pauses the scrolling. I checked the resistors on the board, and most of them look correct. With the ones that didn't, I am not sure if they are faulty, or if it is because they are in circuit. Any pointers from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Marty |

Hi, That behavior usually means the power supply is not up to spec. Your supply might not be able to drive the current or more likely, you have a voltage drop with your cable. Measure the power on the EVBU board - it should be at least 4.75 VDC. A better way to power the board is to add a 7805 regulator as shown in the manual that came with the board. You then power the board with a cheap wall mount power supply that has an output anywhere between 9VDC to 15VDC. Dave, Thanks for the suggestion. When I check the voltage on the board, I am getting 4.88VDC. Do you know if there is any other circuitry that would get bypassed with the addition of the suggested regulator? I bought the board off of eBay. It didn't come with any documentation, but I have downloaded and printed a manual for it off Motorola's web page. I got it working for a little while tonight. Went right into the Buffalo monitor like I think that it should. Then while I was looking at the manual that I have printed out, it went back to the scrolling, free running. I have been trying to get the hello.s19 loaded into it. I still haven't figured that out. I am trying to stand up before I can even walk or run with it. I will try to pick up the 7805. You have any other suggestions?
