Upgrading firmware Over The Air? - merapcb - Sep 11 22:20:55 2008

Hi guys. Sorry this is a general type of question, but hope it is OK
as my platform is MSP430...

I want to provide the device I am developing with the ability to have
firmware upgradation over the air (so that no one has to go in to the
field to do it physically).

My question is, how do I go about planning for this and implementing
it? What are the general concepts behind this (technically I mean)?
Does this place any additional or special requirements/strain on the
micro?

Appreciate inputs about this.

Thanks

Mera

Hi,
I am very intresed in this area of the work because I am work application which needs to update the firmware Over The Air. Please if you have any related information. I think should read more about self programming flash.
Thanks

This has the sounds of a homework question. Hopefully that's true. If
so then you are going to need to do some digging. There is no direct
way to upgrade the firmware "over the air". You will need an rf link or
optical link or connector or something to get the signals onto the
board. Then you need to get them into the info into the chip. Its not
all that difficult. You could bit bang it in or use one of the
communication ports.
