Multiple Target Debugging with two MSP-FET430UIF's? - klausstrohhaecker - Oct 29 11:12:18 2009
Hi,
Anybody know if one can debug two MSP430's (in two comletely independent circuits, or
their evaluation target boards, resp.) at the same time from CCE3.1 by attaching two of
those USB devices?
CCE3.1 seems to support multi-target debugging but I'm unclear how to connect the
hardware. A workaround would be using two PC's but I would like to avoid that.
Best regards, Klaus

I do not know if CCE3.1 supports multi-taget debugging, but I think Windows should be able
to run multi-task and thus multiple copies of CCE3.1 independent of each other using
different USB devices.

Alessandro,
Where did you obtain the .cfg and .bin files from?

Hi John,
Look for sllc297a, when you installed, these files are created in a Texas I=
nstruments folder. But, you should modify the PID/VID configurations for yo=
ur application. After, you should compiled this file for .bin extension.
Is what I Know?

Thanks,
Yes, CCE itself can basically run in mulitple instances, albeit on different workspaces
(not a problem here). I tried that but there are locking issues even with only one FET
attached. For multi traget TI recommends runing two sessions inside one single CCE
instance (that's what the help files say).
Next week I'll get the second FET-UIF and will try and report back if it works or not.

I run multiple instances using the elprotronic dll that supports up to 8 ta=
rgets.. I'm not sure if the multi dll comes with the free software but it d=
oes come with their interface..
=A0
I have used an elprotronic interface side by side with an olimex AND 2 ti f=
ets using their interface dll..
=A0
I don't run multiple work spaces simultaneously (I'm using crossworks but i=
t should=A0 work for CCE) I just switch to the=A0project I need.. I have 4 =
target boards hooded up to a networked computer which I run remotely for de=
bugging sessions..

Now I could not get it to work that way, but I managed to have multiple CCE=
instances running, each with it's own seperate workspace and dedicated tar=
get adapter. Selection of the target adapter's USB connection is via run-->=
debug...-->project_debug_session-->setup-->connection
There each workbench launch needs to connect to a different FET connection =
(one out of USB1...USB3 or LPT1...LPT3).
This solution pretty is OK for me, since cut&paste of code snippets etc acc=
ross the two workbenches is functional.
