Power consumption of OOpic S board - alvin sy - Feb 8 8:14:52 2008

Hi, i just wanted to know how much power and current does the oopic consume since i wanted to use the pin 21 and 22 which is the +5V regulated to power up my components connected to the OOpic S-board thanks

You can get a hint by reading the Microchip 16F877 datasheet and
adding something for the EEPROM. It won't be much. A better
solution is to measure it. A digital volt meter will have current
measuring capability.

It doesn't matter how much power the OOPic takes, that little TO-92
regulator is really not capable of supplying much to other circuits.
MANY, MANY (did I say MANY?) folks have written in that they fried
the voltage regulator. You CAN replace it with a TO-220 version like
the 7805 (and add a heatsink), I suppose, but you will be better
served to provide a separate regulator for off-board devices. Just
make sure that both supplies have a common ground connection.
