OOPic-C - Brian Lloyd - Mar 12 15:51:40 2008
Has anyone used the OOPic-C (22-pin form factor) to replace a BS2? If=20=20
so, what are the issues?

Not many issues. I'm sure dlc is very familiar with this. I played
around with this a bit. The BS2 uses pin 4 of the RS232 DB09
connector for resetting the module, while the oopics don't need it.
You might have to remove the connections to this pin on the pcb, in
order to get the oopic-c to reset properly, but probably not. [as an
aside, the BX24 and Basic Atom modules will not work in an unmodified
BS2 carrier board directly, due to how they use the pin4-reset].
The biggest problem I had was that I used the BS2 auxiliary
[software] serial ports originally on my board, but practically
speaking, you have to give this capability up with the oopic-c.
Otherwise, there shouldn't be much problem with just plugging in the
oopic-c.

That is what I was hoping to hear. I have a bunch of BoeBots and the=20=20
kids seem to like writing code for the ooPIC better.

I'll second that - I've used the ooPIC C on a BoE board with no
problems. The ooPIC C is designed as a drop-in replacement for BS2
boards to give an easy intro to the ooPIC for Stamp owners.

I'll add a caviat that I have an old BoE board and Parallax may have changed the design
since then. But that seems unlikely.
