Stepper Motor Question - jon_mark_go - Apr 17 14:14:56 2008

Will this motor:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=403-1006-ND
work with this driver chip:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=497-2936-5-ND
?

Marginally. Do you understand how steppers work? This one looks like
worst case, depending upon the model is nearly 500mA at 5V - At 12V
stall current is closer to 1Amp. The L293D will work OK with the
former, but it'll be close, and not at all with the latter.

I understand how stepper motors work but not really the
purpose/workings of the drive chips. Could you recommend a drive chip
that works with those motors and the OOPic?

If you are going to use the bipolar mode then I'd use the L298 chip.

Will the L298N work
(http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=497-1395-5-ND)
or should I go with a different version of the
chip(http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Cat=2556632;keywords=l298)?

I'd get the one that you think is the easiest to solder to a board. :)

Good point. The L298HN looks like the easiest
