Marginally. Do you understand how steppers work? This one looks like
worst case, depending upon the model is nearly 500mA at 5V - At 12V
stall current is closer to 1Amp. The L293D will work OK with the
former, but it'll be close, and not at all with the latter.

I understand how stepper motors work but not really the
purpose/workings of the drive chips. Could you recommend a drive chip
that works with those motors and the OOPic?

If you are going to use the bipolar mode then I'd use the L298 chip.
