I really need some help. If anyone knows where I could find an
easily made pic programmer for the 16F84A I could really use it. Thanks
for the help!

I've had really great results with this relatively simple programmer by David
Tait... http://www.nomad.ee/PIC/cpp.gif . Also at one time in a pinch when I
was out of town and needed a programmer, I was able to find the parts to
quickly build one again on a breadboard. I have used this with "pp" or
"odyssey" under linux, and "ic-prog" under win2k.
Cheers,
-Neil.

Hiya-
As neal mentioned, a classic "Tait" programmer.=20=20
Here's a link that might be of interest to you. I was ordering
other parts from the site, so the shipping was a wash. Shoot,
for $14.95 for the parts and pcb, it was easier than shagging the
parts like I did for my first one. The "make/buy" got interesting
for me:
http://www.mpja.com/directview.asp?product=3D6096+KT
Kit went together real well. Nice PCB. Have to cut the larger
40 pin socket (I used dremel tool) and do a bit of shaping, but
otherwise completely normal.
I use(d) pp06 for my software as opposed to the one they suggest,
but I've had problems programming the "A" parts. It might just
be a cockpit error on my part (most likely), but I went to an
ICD2, so I dropped dinking with it.
I'm not sure that it works on XP. I had trouble compiling pp06
on linux, and the windoze version worked fine (it was RH 9.1).
There might be a problem with parallel port allocation with XP.
Worked fine on 98SE.
You will need a power supply. I use a wall wart. Also, a 25 pin
ribbon cable a foot or two long with a male/female D connectors
on them is real nice.....
I don't have any affiliation with mpja, just bought stuff from them.
I think that there might be another house that sells this same
design at the same price.
Cheers,
Rich S.
