Books related to PIC - picrookie503 - Apr 17 11:20:03 2008
Hello Group members:
I am familiar with the MC68HC11, but Motorola does not seem to
want to encourage its use any more so I'm looking for a different
device which the maker wants to support.
Being a "picrookie", I bought "Programming and Customizing the PIC
Microcontroller" 3rd Edition ISBN#978-0-07-147287-6 by Myke Predko.
I am not a bit happy that I did so. Typos by the score and editing and
technical errors, also.
Can anyone recommend a book on PIC Microcontrollers that is worth
reading? I am particularly interested in the PIC18Fxxxx. Since I am
somewhat of an assembly language nut, "C" programming and PIC Basic do
not interest me. If all books on the PIC have this info in them, so be
it, as long as the other content has no technical errors and does not
abuse the english language.
Thank you for whatever help you may provide.

Lots of folks recommend the "Easy PIC'n" series of books. They aren't
expensive and they hold your hand through lots of greater and lesser
interesting projects of a wide variety.
I've looked through a couple of them and they seemed good for the
beginner, I didn't get any though, I'm a bit far from a beginner...

Do a search on Amazon.com, I ordered the same book as you, guess it
was a bad choice. For chip specific info there is always Microchips
site, there are ap notes and such that seem to be good, I did d/l the
instruction set and stuffed it in a binder, and a couple of chip
specs. I started to get into this a while back but things got busy,
maybe now I'll get a little further.

Take a look at this book:
"Embedded Design with the PIC18F452 Microcontroller" written by John
Peatman (Prentice Hall, 2003) in support of Microchip Technology's
PIC18F family of microcontrollers.
http://www.picbook.com/
Good for the 18F4620 familay as well. PCB available.
