If you haven't seen these tutorials, check them out:
http://www.gooligum.com.au/ Starting with a simple 8 pin device, the
author does a great job describing the hardware and assembly language
programming.
I haven't finished working through them (I just ordered the hardware)
but even though I have been working with PICs for quite a long time, I
think I will start from the beginning. I believe it will be worth the
time...
