Software to Draw the Circuit - jwoo...@activation.net - May 29 22:19:51 2009
I am new to doing hardware. I have programmed things in machine language
before including device drivers. I feel very comfortable writing code in
machine language.
I have researched and pretty much figured out the circuit in my head but I
want to make a schematic so I can show it to people who are more
experienced in hardware to see if they can make suggestions and improve my
design.
Is there a good open source windows package out there that will do this?
Eventually I will want to do PCB layout but right now that isn't too
important. The most important thing is ease of learning for someone who
isn't that familiar with hardware.
thanks
John

John,
Take a look at Target PCB
I use Easy PC Pro, an I find it very intuitive fast and easy to work with
DipTrace:
I think you can download (crippled) demos of most of these to try out.

Dear Mr.Tony,
There are many softwares available on the internet.like Multisim,Orcad,Circuit Maker which
can be easily downloaded .The software will help you in making schematic designs and it is
also very easy to understand.

Good morning
Although it is not Open Source, it is free for hobbysts. I use Eagle CAD.
http://www.cadsoft.de/download.htm
It runs on Windows, Linux and Mac, and has a lot of add-ons contributed by a large
supporting community.
You can do the schematics and the board in a single project.
Greetings

http://www.lis.inpg.fr/realise_au_lis/kicad/ is open source. no opnion
about 'good'.
I use eagle, which is free for small PCBs.

In my experience and from hearsay it seems that such software is never
easy to start with.

I've always been a fan of gEDA, which is open source and has the complete
suite of applications, schematic capture, PCB layout, netlist generation,
simulation, bom and gerber viewing. It isn't quite as easy to install on
Windows as on Linux, but then, nothing is. However, as Wouter says, any of
this sort of program doesn't seem to be all that simple. gEDA does seem to
be more flexible than most, though.
