A discussion group for the PICMicro microcontroller. Also called the Microchip PIC, this list is dedicated to the use and abuse of this fine, simple, microcontroller. Close to topic posts are welcome, ie. general electronics.

Hello I am looking for the cheapest GPS and GSM modules (they can also be in a combined configuration). I then want to interface them with a PIC. Volumes required are about 50000 units. Any ideas? Thanks Ashfaq |

The Cheapest GPS/GSM modules probably can be found on
the internet. Interfacing these with the PIC maybe quite a task.
The application may interest the PIC list
group from the interfacing aspect. I designed amplified GPS antenna's and
played with them a lot. Contact me of list if you wish so we don't go off topic with
the group here.

Most GSM modules have an RS232 or similar interface and respond to Hayes modem commands. Most GPS modules produce an RS232 or similar output stream so interfacing could be quite straightforward.
