A discussion group for the PICMicro microcontroller. Also called the Microchip PIC, this list is dedicated to the use and abuse of this fine, simple, microcontroller. Close to topic posts are welcome, ie. general electronics.

i suggest that you buy another h-bridge that will be compatible with your dc
motors...try using A3951 pwm motor driver from Analog Devices...they are
suitable for motors like yours...

Emmanuel,

I don't find A3951 at the AD website. You have a better number?

Shaun,

Don't know what your circuit looks like, but grab some cheap MOSFETs
and a dual high-side MOSFET driver from Linear Tech. I'm sure LT has
lot of sample applications.

Re: HELP!!!!!!need to control 4.8v dc motors - Author Unknown - Aug 22 11:49:00 2003

don't have circuit as such, was driving 'h' bridge direct with 12f675 pwm output, i'm gonna have to learn transistors/mosfets, i knew i was going to have to anyway. just wanted to learn assembly first, then get robot thing to move around as i had planned (just to check program objective correct). didnt realise component electronics and pics both go hand in hand(naive i know), thought it would be a bit more modular like plc's.
already got power mosfet's (buk545) just need to suss how to wire them!!!!

You might want to consider the National Semiconductor LMD18200 3A 55V
H-Bridge available at www.acroname.com. This device is self-
protecting so it should be able to handle the peak currents with no
ill effects. --- In , Chad Russel <chadrussel@y...> wrote:

He made a mistake - it's not Analog, it's Allegro.
www.allegromicro.com

The A3951 is, however, a discontinued product. Also,
it can only drive 2A, 3.5A peak. I don't know what
the replacement is, but Allegro has a bunch of different
motor driver chips. A better choice is probably the
LMD18200 like Richard suggested. To go to higher
currents, you can build your own with MOSFETs. A nice
example (including schematics and gerbers) can be found at
http://www.mcmanis.com/chuck/Robotics/projects/servo.html

Tim.

Re: Re: HELP!!!!!!need to control 4.8v dc motors - Author Unknown - Aug 25 16:00:00 2003

hi guys,
thanx for tips i did manage to sort something out, i'm using a small signal mosfet to drive a power mosfet, i think this will work just waiting for my new pic chip to arrive as i fried mine, have to learn somehow. due tomorrow so i should see if my plan will work, i.e., use 12f675 with pwm module output to drive direct small signal mosfet which will drive direct a 20a power mosfet with 7v connected to source and motor between drain and 0v works ok on breadboard. my pwm is 1khz at 0.5v to 2.5v max out 25ma. all i want to do is drive the motors towards light using a ldr as the analogue input...simple i know but has a been a good way to self learn. could do with somebody going over my program to see if it can be improved for a faster pwm base frequency...only short and well documented, wouldn't take an experienced programmer too long to look....anybody willing i'll send it on as i don't think  attachments work on here.

best regards

shaun
